    Fort Miradoux

    In 1669, Vauban who wanted to make Collioure a garrison town, decided to shave the old town and create Fort Miradoux on the site of the old Fort Sainte-Thérèse built around 1540 by Charles V. This fort because of its location was of paramount importance in the defense of the castle. Today, Fort Miradoux, owned by the Army has become the National Commando Training Center (CNEC).

    Royal Castle of Collioure

    Built in the 13th century to house the court of the Kings of Majorca, the Royal Castle of Collioure has been listed as a historical monument since 1922. Reinforced many times, the castle eventually pushed the city back to the foot of the cape turned into a citadel in the 17th century. It is inseparable from Collioure as the city can not be separated from the sea. To return to the heart of the world of the Royal Castle of Collioure, do not forget the guided tours!

Description

  1. From the stadium carpark, go down the street on left  then at the roundabout, take left again. Walk along the Fort Miradou, which is now  military property. It’s a simple tower constructed in the 14th century reinforced by Charles Quint then fortified by Vauban.
  2. At the end of the street (about 300 meters), on right of the Henri Matisse reproduction "Les toits de Collioure", go down  to the stairs. Continue down the typical alley (Rue du Miradou), made of river pebbles, that leads  to the small  church square a masterpiece  of catalan art of 17th century).
  3. Then go along the beach and the quay, to admire other reproductions of Matisse and Derain paintings. They are installed where the originals paintings were painted in 1905 and represent "Le Chemin du Fauvisme".
  4. Cross Le Douy by the footbridge and bypass the Royal castle (Summer Place of  Mayorcan and Aragon kings) on the left. In case of bad weather, take a right on the Glacis carpark. Folllow the path until the beaches , then walk along them until crossing a new footbridge.
  5. Take a  Left  (Rue Jean Bart) and go on the promenade along the coastline until the stairs at La Balette restaurant. From there you can join the RD 914 . Then  take the  pavement on left ,  at  800 meters, until the Oli carpark, starting point of the “Moorish path” ("Sentier de la Mauresque)".

Access and parking

By the road « 4 roads » exit n°14, at the 1st roundabout direction  Collioure center. At the 2sd roundabout, take the direction Pla de la Fourques-Stade. Then at 200 meters, enter in the carpark stadium, starting point of the crossing of Collioure.
