Cap Gros

Cap Gros is an exceptional site both on land and in the water. At the point of the cape, the Fort de la Mauresque was built to defend the entrance to the Port of Port-Vendres, and underwater discover the incredible fauna and flora.

Between 3- and 20-meters depth for diving and one can also practice snorkeling.
Several dives are possible on this large site where the current is generally weak. 
Sheltered from the sea wind, it is however very exposed to the Tramontane. Visibility is generally good the first 10-12 meters, yet variable below that.

The first part of the site (between 3 and 15 meters depth) is essentially rocky and very rugged. Slightly offset from the point of Cape Gros, shallows rise from this depth to about 5 meters, you will find schools of sea bream, pomfrets and saddled bream.
More and more frequently, small schools of Mediterranean barracudas come to greet you.

The vertical walls, narrow passages and coralligenous rifts between 15 and 23 meters are particularly interesting to see a rich and varied fauna of all kinds of sponges, white sea fans or alcyonacea as well as many nudibranchs. This diving zone is more for skilled divers because of the poor visibility and strong frequent currents.
