This family walk will allow you to discover the fauna and flora of Laroque-des-Albères and its immediate surroundings.
Description
- Starting from the Office de Tourisme. On leaving the Office de Tourisme, go up the steps and through the gate. Go left on to the rue Carboneill and follow this street then turn right on to the Joffre.
- At the next intersection go left on to the rue du Moulin and left again. Continue up to the next intersection.
- Don’t go up the steps opposite but turn right. You are on the Chemin des Disputes (this lane is signposted only at the other end of the lane). Continue straight on; don’t go down the lane on the right but go up the steps and follow the dry stone wall and vineyards. Here you have a wonderful view of the côte Vermeille (Vermillion coast). On arriving at the intersection with the small tarmacked road, go right. Several metres further on, go left on to the path between two fences and follow the yellow markings.
- Follow the track. On the left, you can enjoy the view over Sorède and the Happy Valley (Vallée Heureuse). Observe below the Mimosa fields, the Almond trees and the terracing. At the end of this little path go right between two stone walls.
- At the crossroads, you can see the cork oaks amongst the ruins of an old mas (farmhouse).
- Take the path on the left to head for the mountains.
- At the following intersection, take the path on the right. After a few metres, you will notice the Font (fountain) d’en Malzac. Continue along this path to get to the Mas d’en Bordes (Large stone built house).
- When you reach the house, stay on the right and go down the path on the right.
- At the next crossroads go left then left straight away to get to the pool.
- When you get to the pool go left and follow the irrigation channel.
- Further along, go down on the right towards the Spring (la source minérale). The spring water is sparkling and ferrous.
- At the spring follow the river down and cross the small ford. Keep left to reach the road. Go left down the road back towards the village.
- Several metres after an intersection and just after the 40 sign, go down a path on the right. Cross over the stream and continue along amongst the gardens to get to the river.
- Cross the small metallic bridge and turn left straight away on to a small path that leads to the chemin de Malès.
- Don’t go up the path on the right which takes you up to the old village, but continue staight on following the Malès path.
- Cross over the metallic bridge and take the path on the left ! Follow this path up to the road keep right and go down to join the main road.
- Cross over the road and go down the Rue des Ecoles .
- After the Club House go right on to the Chemin d’Ortaffa and go up to the village and the Office de Tourisme in order to collect the anwsers to you children’s questionnaire.

It is an easy walk but don’t forget to follow the general safety tips; (take sufficient drinking water, wear appropriate footwear and clothing; hats, sunglasses, suncream and don’t stray from the indicated path).
